Terug

23 April 2011, still flying (Leonie)

We are still making good progress towards Fiji. We have covered 388 miles in the past 48 hours. The waves have been building and we were healing over quite a bit. Nobody slept very well and life on board was a bit of a challenge today. Opening the fridge door was an event, which required careful timing, extricating what was needed and stopping all the rest from falling out.

The kids didn't really seem to mind the conditions and nobody threw up today. Lego has been the absolute favourite toy and the 'Snap' card game has also accounted for a lot of fun. The wind has eased a bit now, making life a bit more comfortable on board, even though we're still doing 8 to 8.5 knots. The weather is starting to become more and more tropical. No need for warm blankets anymore and it was hot inside the boat today, as opening windows is not an option in these conditions.

Sharon is hanging in there. She's not throwing up, but still quite seasick. She's very tough on herself and doesn't complain. The only thing she'll complain about every now and then, is that she's not able to contribute more to the Red team. She's excused. I wouldn't want to be in her shoes. She says she's going to make up for it in Fiji , by making Sushi and 5 course meals for the rest of her holiday. We're taking good care of her, but I'm sure she'll be the happiest to see land in about 2 days from now (326 miles to go).

The kids disco has been part of our daily routine. Today Mees and Nathan had the best moves to Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams. When Adam asked Nathan what we should do first when we get to Fiji, Nathan answered: "Buy some more mandawins". The Black team turned the third night of fish into a superb Indian curry, complete with Pappadums and mango chutney! No fishing today, but tomorrow we'll start again.

Adam has been growing a sexy beard. I'll get some pictures tomorrow, as he's been itching to shave it off. Good news on the dented washing machine. We'll receive a substantial refund.
